Group
ski lessons started last night at Bearsden Ski Club,
Beginner ski lessons and level 1/2, I
shall join this group.
The weather last night in Glasgow was
extremely wet and windy with very low temperature, so just perfect for
skiing. Skiers in Scotland have to be very hardy as quite often the
weather is very much against them.
The beginner lesson started with the
instructor discussing and giving information to the group regarding the equipment, as how
to use the ski's and boots ,to stand, walk and balance. The group were
shown how to slide down the slope and to use the rope tow. By the end of
the two hours this class had moved away from the small slope and moved slightly
up onto the big slope. The main slope has openings all the way up to the top enabling
beginners to slowly ascend to the top.
I spoke to a few of these new to skiing
and although they were very nervous to start they really enjoyed the experience
and can't wait till next session, even though the weather was so bad.
On the level 1/2 lesson the instructor
had everyone skiing down from half way of the big slope to see where we were
and then focused on what was needed to work on. We then slowly continued up the
slope and were giving feedback on each run on what to do next to improving
our skiing and this process was applied all through the lesson. By the end of
the our two hours on the slope we were nearly at the
top, personally I feel that my stance, balance and turning execution had
improved. The group that I am in is really nice and we all got on and after the
class we went into the boot room and changed out of our ski boots back
into our own shoes and handed back the skis to the boys in the boot-room.
After skiing for two hours in
horrendous weather conditions much of our clothes are soaked
through , lucky most of us had brought a change.
OMG my legs were so sore
after the lesson, some of us went upstairs for a chat and a rest before we went
home. I did have a fantastic time even though the weather did its best to kill
the mood, this was the reaction from those who took part in both classes.
I can't wait till next week, I do hope
the rain stays away.
