CHILDREN'S SKI, LESSONS

Children's, Ski, Lessons,
In this blog we look at children's lessons and what's next as they get better and advance through the levels.

Group lessons at Glasgow ski and board/ Bellahouston ski club include all equipment. Lessons start from the age of 6 years for skiing and 8 years for snowboarding. The club has four floodlit slopes also a cafe/bar which parents are then able to watch children's lessons on wetter days with a coffee or a viewing area which is great in the summer to sit with a soft drink or a nice glass of wine.
Everyone starts at the beginning with ski and snowboard lessons. Once the children complete the general levels, going from beginner to advanced they can then enter into the race or the freestyle section depending on where there interests lie or how they wish to continue.
The racing section involves lots of practice and training which is quiet intense, disciplined but very rewarding and greatly improves fitness levels.

Bearsden Ski Club  group lessons start from the age of 4, classes for the 4-6 years are on Mondays and Fridays from 4pm till 5pm as well as Saturdays at 10am. For the slightly older children 7+ ski classes are on Mondays and Thursdays at 6.30pm till 8pm as well as Saturdays from 11.15am-12.45pm. There are also classes for teenagers on Mondays and Thursdays starting at 7.30pm and
 all courses include equipment.

Snowboarding lessons start from the age of 8+ with boards and boots being supplied these run at four different levels. There are beginner classes, a  level 2-3 program and then advancement onto the 4+ course .

The club has a fantastic facilities such as the café and bar with the staff being really friendly and the coffee is well worth a try.

There is a viewing area which is really good place for watching lessons as well as the races that the club holds all year round, but I must say in the summer months it is a great place for relaxing taking in those rays with a lovely glass of your favourite tipple.

Children get experience going through poles on the ski slope then the chance to enter races (which there are many and not only at the home slopes) to race against one-another or competitors from different ski slopes.

Race days are fantastic with many parents getting very excited watching their children and quiet often there is a BBQ or hot food from the café.
The picture below is Dougie Crawford who began skiing at Bearsden Ski Club and then went on to claim many titles then represented the UK  in many major competitions around the world.

The freestyle section is more relaxed but also includes lots of training and practice. Reaching this level might be a bit scary for parents when they come to watch contests as the children do very complicated jumps on both snowboards and skies. These competitions are much more laid-back and often there will also be a BBQ stand as well as music.

This picture is of two very successful competitors from Bearsden Ski Club who have had much success competing with the freestyle team Chris and Mat McCormick.
